When the cutter pulled away from the vent tower there were a lot of sparks flashing.  When I looked at the c4 sparks some looked like they might be drone activity.  One of the c4 sparks definitely looked like a real spark.

I caught another big burst of smoke on cam4 coming from the csfp area. Workers were out on the roof of the building in front of the r4 extension.

thats a lot of smoke.   Cant be good
..airfloating metal...

..then there is also this little underground river "washing"...
It does look pretty bad.  It was a bit of a surprise to see the cloud, we'd seen them often years ago but not lately.  The release was as if a valve opened and then shut.  The cloud came out with some velocity and dissipated rather quickly, like steam.  It wasn't black like diesel exhaust and didn't hang in the air as long as diesel exhaust does.  My guess is that it's a steam release from the CSFP.  Tepco says they've been pulling spent fuel rod assemblies from Unit 3 to be stored in the Common Spent Fuel Pool.  The spent fuel has had years to cool but maybe some are still a little thermally hot.  When I scanned the recording I noticed the movement of workers on the roof of the building in front of Unit 4.  I grabbed so many pictures because I noticed small flickers of light and thought I might be seeing sparks in the daylight.  There were dark clouds on cam1 looking south so I wondered if it might be snow flakes or rain drops hitting cam4 located at the south end.  The more likely possibility was the light flashes were just reflections from the worker activity on the roof.  I noticed too that the workers paused their activity when the steam started but came back out to look at the cloud.  The workers are hardly noticeable and the light flashes were small and faint, they don't stand out in still photos.  You can't miss the vapor cloud though, that looked like a large volume of steam.

Japan is rattled by 5.2-magnitude earthquake near Fukushima
PUBLISHED: 06:35 EST, 12 February 2020 | UPDATED: 07:17 EST, 12 February 2020

Quote:Japan was rattled by a 5.2-magnitude earthquake off the coast of Fukushima province today.
The quake struck just over 50 miles from the city of Fukushima where the nuclear disaster occurred in 2011.
Witnesses said they had felt a 10-second long shake during the tremor at around 7.30pm local time.

Wow, Horse. I could watch that video again and again.

Unit 3 appears to sit upon a massive bed of quicksand, still splashing back and forth long after the camera side stops swaying.

Nice catch.
Thanks. That EQ showed horizontal movement and then the vertical movement. That's got to slosh around those spent fuel pools. Shake stuff loose. Probably busy on the ground looking things over for damage.

I found the red glow on U3 horizontal to the first red stripe on the first crane interesting...
I took a second look at that light too. Crane parts can create various reflections. IDK, hadn't noticed it before.

It was around the time I signed up at CRL....or just before,  Horse asked my opinion on another earthquake.  I was sure the video was faked!   Now I have the same impression.  Since it is not fake, I had to wonder what causes it to look the way it does. It must be an artifact of frame rates and accelerations.  I think this is called rolling shutter distortion.

Obviously,  the camera is doing the big shaking.  No big structure would move that fast, there would be 'infinite' G force at that acceleration.  I look at the top of the crane in relation to the tower, which is in front, and there is no evidence of crane sway.  Is there any doubt that the crane would sway relative to the tower?  Totally different stiffness.  So there is a light at the 'elbow' of the crane and it shows some irregularity.  This is evidence of some movement, maybe a cable swinging in front of the light or something.

The camera seems to be loosely attached.  Do you notice shaking in the wind?  Sorry, Im not a constant camera watcher.

The image is as if the bright, more foreground stuff is cut out of paper and jiggling in front of the background buildings.  As if someone is doing that by hand, using cut outs.  So I assume this has something to do with the edge sharpness and how the video distortion affects hard and soft focussed areas differently.

This distortion is visible on the roof line of unit four.  It seems to deform which must not be the case.  Unit four is the stiffest structure there.  So we see mainly a loose camera shaking around causing video distortion, in my humble opinion

rolling shutter distortion
Code, thanks for chiming in.  You're correct that the buildings don't jerk that much, that its mostly camera motion.  Cam4 sometimes moves in strong winds too, but its a different motion than when an EQ moves the camera.  Your rolling shutter motion is probably a good way to express some of the difference in apparent motion.  Wind just doesn't get the camera vibrating that much.  To confirm that it's mostly camera motion, the cam1 camera is mounted to the Earthquake Isolation building and I only see slight camera motion and then only on the larger quakes.  I haven't looked at cam1 to see how bad that cam shook this time.  Whether cam1 on the EQ isolation pad or cam4 not on the pad shows some movement, I think the ground does move quite a bit and shakes the contents of the buildings as the seismic waves pass thru the area.  The 5.2 EQ wasn't that big but the epicenter was close, 34 km SE of Namie.  It usually takes a 6.0 or greater to shake cam4 like that.  When they show Earthquake footage in mainstream media the camera shakes and shows apparent motion but they also show the stuff falling off of shelves, things on wheels rolling about, and waves in pools of water.  Tepco never tells us about any damage, a quick look around, and a constant reassuring message of nothing happening here folks. I'll just repeat the message that it was foolhardy to put a nuke plant near a fault on the ring of fire.

02-14 19:19 Cam4 shows the cutter going onto the vent tower for another bite.  19:56 and the cutter pulled away and dropped back to the ground.  20:05 and the cutter is moving over the top of the vent tower again. 20:17 and the cutter in cam4's view is finally showing up at the top of the tower in cam1's view. I had my doubts but its starting to look interesting, a closer view of the cutter in action. 20:26 c1 spark. Even if you don't watch the tepcams regularly, what's playing on the tepcams right now is worth a peek. 20:39 c1 spark. 21:07 c1 spark.

02-14  The vent tower cutter operation, cam4 showing the cutter going on the tower, and part of the cutter showing on cam1.  Nice spark catch on cam1 too.
