UK Lib Dem Leader Tim Farron Calls for Independent Investigation into Environmental Damage from Nuclear Industries https://miningawareness.wordpress.com/20...ndustries/

"I am pleased to confirm that I have written to the Secretary of State to present this proposition and to ask for her comprehensive consideration of the question. I will write again, when I have received the response."

It will be interesting to see how this progresses. Think I'll write a letter of support for his proposition.

More from the Mining Awareness article:

"Note that research indicates that about 48% of Sellafield radioactive iodine 129 (and presumably other emissions such as Cesium 137, plutonium, technetium, tritium), end up in the Arctic: https://miningawareness.wordpress.com/20...-midnight/
BAE Systems plc is a British multinational defence, security and aerospace company headquartered in London in the United Kingdom and with operations worldwide. It is among the world’s largest defence contractors; it ranked as the second-largest based on applicable 2012 revenues.[5] Its largest operations are in the United Kingdom and United States, where its BAE Systems Inc. subsidiary is one of the six largest suppliers to the US Department of Defense. Other major markets include Australia, India and Saudi Arabia. The company was formed on 30 November 1999 by the £7.7 billion merger of two British companies; Marconi Electronic Systems (MES) – the defence electronics and naval shipbuilding subsidiary of the General Electric Company plc (GEC) – and British Aerospace (BAe) – an aircraft, munitions and naval systems manufacturer.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BAE_Systems (Emphasis our own).

Sellafield is where all storage of radioactive materials and nuclear reprocessing in the UK takes place. It was once at the heart of plutonium manufacturing for the British nuclear weapons program.

They have had to monitor Cumbrian beaches around Sellafield because of the release of plutonium into the ocean.

In Enformable Earth Times today I saw the headline about the nuclear industries contribution to the economy and thought of all the offsetting costs that nuclear creates in the health sector, waste management, clean ups of incidents, liabilities... thinking the cons far outweigh the pros.
