WEBCAM October 2018

Post webcam observations for October here.  Observations should start with a date and ‘jst’ time (Japan Standard Time) and camera(s).  Describe as best as possible what you see.  Contribute data such as weather conditions, work activities, TEPCO or local news reports, radiation readings, earthquake activity, or any information that documents events occurring at Daiichi.  Comments and analysis welcome.  Help keep an eye on TEPCO's disaster site.

10-01 Storm blew thru, saw lots of rain overnight, clearing in the morning.  Cam4 was shaking vigorously in the wind.  Signs of life, a crane hook slides into view briefly on cam4.  Later, in the afternoon I watched one of the remote cranes lift up.

TEPCO reported a water level alarm, but on initial inspections they didn't see what the issue was that triggered the alarm. Following was the latest report, translated by google. They also reported "burnt marks in the air conditioner control panel on the roof of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station Unit 5 turbine building."

Hey Horse, the NTT (above) cam links no longer work. I haven't checked in a while, but Tomioka cam was one of my favorites to watch with a high frame-rate. Anyone have an idea when these cams went offline?

Hi RodgerR, thanks for the info, hope things are going good for you.   No idea when they went offline.  Iwaki was a fav of mine; a nice, normal relaxing view.  The TBS-JNN cam shows offline now instead of just 'not available in your country'.  No cams left that show the neighborhood.  Out of sight, out of mind.  Probably a state secret.  Maybe we get better cams for the Olympics.  HaHa.  I suppose I should remove the inop links.

Maybe they shut the neighboring cams off because no one was looking at them anymore; not enough ad revenue.  Tomioka and Iwaki aren't the busy towns they once were.  There's not much happening on the Tepcams, either.  I see cranes busy on work days again; lots of work moving stuff around but not much in view of the Tepcams.  The work light on cam4 has attracted bugs that flit thru the view.  They blink a bit like sparks and fake me out.  Thought I'd see a cam4 spark but it turned out to be another bug.  I watched cam1 for a half hour and found 7 sparks and 1 distortion.

Here's a collage of a bug flitting thru cam4 and a colorful cam1 spark.

I found the other link I was using for TBS-JNN but it still says:
Video Unavailable   The uploader has not made this video available in your country.

I wonder if the people in Japan can still get it.

The Futaba direct feed still works with VLC media player  http://stm.futabagun.jp/510.swf

Here's a link to other cams in Japan.

10-13  It's the weekend, the remote cranes are taking a break.  Weekend work must be going on because I see the work light that shows up on cam4 at night.  The light usually goes off around 22:00.  The work light is off when I noticed a cam4 spark at 23:11.

10-17  I watched quite a few of these same remote crane loads the last couple work days.  Don't know what they do with all these big loads but it looks like they're building something.

Fukushima Daiichi: Former TEPCO Exec Fails to Take Responsibility for the Seawall Fiasco
http://majiasblog.blogspot.com/2018/10/f...-exec.html

I want to know who's going to be responsible if they dump that contaminated water into the sea and kill off the rest of the Ocean's life?  Surely they must have noticed the marine life crash after Fukushima's radioactive tsunami debris floated westward to North America.  Fukushima Dai-Ichi continues to make more radioactive effluent pouring out into the world.  Dumping those tanks is still a very bad idea.  Who will say “Sorry” when the fish are gone?

Majia found a half hour with ten sparks.  Yes, "sparks" are Cherenkov radiation detected by the camera sensor.  For more about Cherenkov radiation see:   http://caferadlab.com/thread-1965-post-3...ml#pid3815 and http://caferadlab.com/thread-51-post-5174.html#pid5174
I noticed periods where the time would jump a couple minutes, jerking instead of a nice smooth flow of second by second.  The jerking was pretty bad that night so I didn't do more of a count.  That's a pretty high count though and no telling what might not be counted in the missing minutes.

Wondering what this grey tarp on csfp is covering? Don't know how long it's been there.

C'est super Felibi, good zoom in on the CSFP.  I hadn't noticed the grey tarp before.  I noticed some wisps of smoke coming from that side of cam4 twice on 10-24 before I had to leave to work on a new client's network.  A good friend retired and left most of his clients to me.  The extra income has really helped us out but I'm not sitting in front of the monitors most of the time now.  I'm so glad you and a couple others are still watching.
