20180802 | CT_Millstone_3 | RELEASE OF POSSIBLE TRITIUM BEARING WATER |
https://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/doc-colle...ml#en53533

The following was received via telephone and email notification from Millstone Power Station:

Millstone Power Station Unit 3,
identified that the underground pipe to the Condensate Surge Tank had leaked greater than 100 gallons of water
[ Note that no exact val is posted only a vague ' greater than 100 gallons '. Was it 101 gals or 1000 gals? ]
[ So 100 gals appears to be a reporting threshold, but there's no time parameter. ]
[ ie Has it been leaking 95 gals per hour for 2 weeks and finally reached 100 gals per hour so now it has to be reported ]
[ or has it been leaking 1 gal per day for the last 99 days and finally reached the reporting threshold. ]

that included trace amounts of tritium to the ground.
[ Note that no numerical value is provided so readers can evaluate the severity ofthe release. ]

[ This is also evidence that the condensate is contaminated. ]

The effected piping is inside the protected area and has been isolated and drained.

No tritium has been detected in any monitoring wells outside of the Protected Area.
[ No mention of whether tritium was detected in any monitoring wells inside the protected area. ]

There is no threat to employees or the public or impact to drinking water.
[ The above statement is a standard cut and paste response right out of the spokeweasels 'Responses to questions' handbook. ]

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection,
and the towns of Waterford and East Lyme were notified at approximately 1300 [EDT] on August 2, 2018.

The licensee notified the NRC Resident Inspector.

[ Millstone was shown to be one of the most profitable facilities in reports during the recent appeal by it's owners for taxpayer subsidies. ]

[ During the negotiations for the subsidies the owners of Millstone threatened to shutdown their environmental contamination machine, to which anti nuclear activists replied, 'oh yeah, do it'. ]
