WEBCAM August 2018
#1
Post webcam observations for August here.  Observations should start with a date and ‘jst’ time (Japan Standard Time) and camera(s).  Describe as best as possible what you see.  Contribute data such as weather conditions, work activities, TEPCO or local news reports, radiation readings, earthquake activity, or any information that documents events occurring at Daiichi.  Comments and analysis welcome.  Help keep an eye on TEPCO's disaster site.

08-01 Look what comes out of the fog on cam4.  Looks like another crane is being assembled.  Workers sited guiding a cable reel into place.  Workers wearing protective suits and face masks.  They should be getting hazard pay.  The clearing fog was punctuated by puffs of diesel smoke.  In the evening I saw a red light blinking.  It came into view three times, each lasting a few minutes.

Unusually great clarity on those screenshots. I wonder if they installed a new camera or lens.

The workers in the foreground show up real well, much clearer than the buildings in the background.  The lens have been cleaned by recent rains.  The cameras are good quality but Tepco limits the feeds we get to see.
Nuckelchen showed what Tepco sees vs. what we get.  http://caferadlab.com/thread-323.html
TBG showed how much the camera is zoomed.  http://caferadlab.com/thread-85.html
I don't know that they've ever replaced the cameras.

08-03 Fuku is not all cleaned up yet.  Looks busy at both ends of the plant.

08-05 There were a couple minor quakes in Japan. I checked cam4 for the two 4.7's but didn't see the cam shaking.  I've seen wind gusts shake the cam a bit to fake me out.  EQ's greater than 5 have shaken the cams, jerking the view up and down.  Maybe they weren't close enough this time.

08-05 pm I watched an electrical storm light up the sky to the south.  Could be the approaching typhoon Shanshan.  The lightning flashed on cam1 for about a half hour putting on a nice show.  Too many to show, I'll pick some of the bright ones out and display the thumbnail pics.

08-07 Cam4 shows workers assembling a new crane.

Cam1 showed different pieces being placed on the west side of r1.  They worked late into the day, maybe trying to get work done before the storm comes.  Camera views showing lots of rain.

08-08 Its raining hard on cam4.  Namie is pretty close.  This 4.7 EQ starts shaking the camera at about 18:00.  Most of the quakes take about a minute after the UTC time reported.  Hard to tell wind shake from quaking.  Hard jerking lasts only seconds.

Quote:Are these earthquakes related to the increased (visible) emissions at Fukushima over the last couple of weeks or are weather conditions primarily predictive of visibility?

Earthqukes always seem to add to emissions.  Cracking open reactor 2 put more radionuclides into the air around the plant.  It is that time of year for storms, but Daiichi always has its own weather.

08-15 Cranes haven't moved since the typhoon passed.  Another lightning storm, this time to the north, was probably the typhoon.  While I was looking for lightning strikes I spotted a spark on cam4.

08-17 075522 r3 workers - zooms.  Good catch Uni, thanks for watching.  I'm glad others are keeping an eye on TEPCO.

08-19 012736 c4 spark.  I see sparking on cam1, not noticeably more or less than usual.  Cam1 has had that torn and twisted spider web in front of the lens, blocks the viewing so I haven't bothered to count in awhile.  The cam4 spark was a lucky catch, just from glancing at the monitors once in a while thru my day.

08-20 110835 c4 load.  In the foreground of cam4, a crane part is moved into position while a worker stands up on another part of the crane being assembled.

Glad I eventually found a way to insert screenshots. Take care all. No half life... Full life!

Bon Jour Elibi.  The screenshot looks good to me, glad you figured out how to get them posted.  I see you have a Windows 10 computer, let me know if you want some help with it.  I want to see more of your captures posted.  This past week I've seen the workers putting together the new crane on cam4.  Cam1 showed more of those walls or panels being moved around reactor1.  Last night, whenever I glanced at cam1, I was seeing sparks.  I've been busy with new clients and just haven't had as much time for the webcams lately, feel free to help me out here.

Elibi, Your screenshots can be snipped or cropped and then resized to fill more of the screen.  Doesn't look bad at all, except, it is Fuku.  Not much moving on the cams over the weekend.  They have another big storm headed toward northern Japan, threat of high winds, storm surge, and flooding.  Have to watch for some shaking too, Ben at Suspicious0bservers is warning of possible earthquakes.

Ben‏ @TheRealS0s · 17 hours ago
Transition zone blot echo in Japan! These are rare and have preceeded tremendous seismic events near the surface!

Keep posting your screenshots. The old webcam forum at ENENews is gone, so much of Fuku has been scrubbed from the internet.  We can keep documenting Fuku, its still a disaster zone that threatens our future.
