The Daily Dose - Exposing the nuclear power industry while the nuclear power industry exposes you.

There are 3 EN(s) today, 2 associated with power stations.

[ Lot of unreported ( no Event Notification ) activity over the weekend, see the 'Other reactor info from daily power tracking ' section. ]

https://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/doc-colle...ml#en53469

"At 0900 [EDT] on June 22, 2018, a non-licensed supervisory contractor subverted a random Fitness for Duty test. The contractor's site access has been terminated.

The NRC Resident Inspector was notified. "

[ Notice the frequency of supervisors failing FFD, the frequency of subverting testing. Seems like a monthly thing. ]
[ If the supervisors are doing this, how many of the workers are going undetected? ]

20180622 | TN_WattsBar_2 | AUTOMATIC REACTOR TRIP |
https://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/doc-colle...ml#en53467

"At 0841 EDT on June 22, 2018, the Watts Bar Unit 2 reactor automatically tripped while operating at 95% power.

[ This unit was experiencing some kind of problem beginning last week. On Thursday power was reported at 60 %, no EN was filed. ]
[ On Friday they reported 85 % in the AM as they tried to bring the unit back to full power but then the unit scrammed. ]
[ The unit reports 0 % power as of this morning. ]

All control and shutdown bank rods inserted properly in response to the automatic reactor trip.

All safety systems including Auxiliary Feedwater actuated as designed.

The plant is stable with decay heat removal through Auxiliary Feedwater and Steam Dump Systems.
[ Unclear if these are steam dumps to the atmosphere or to the main condenser. ]

"The reactor automatically tripped due to a main turbine trip.
The turbine trip was caused by main generator electrical trip.
An investigation is in progress.

"The automatic actuation of the Reactor Protection System (RPS) is being reported as a four hour report under 10 CFR 50.72 (b)(2)(iv)(B).
"The expected actuation of the Auxiliary Feedwater System (an engineered safety feature) is being reported as an eight hour report under 10 CFR 50.72 (b)(3)(iv)(A).

"The NRC Senior Resident Inspector has been notified for this event."

The plant is currently stable at normal operating temperature and pressure.
The grid is stable and the plant is in its normal shutdown electrical lineup.
Unit 1 was unaffected by the Unit 2 trip.
