"We hypothesize that “spikes” in NPP releases may result in the contamination of embryos and fetuses of preg-
nant women living nearby in high concentration areas. These concentrations could be long-lived and could
result in large exposures to radiosensitive tissues and subsequent cancers."

in fig 1 10 km = 6miles, 100 km = 62 miles, 500 km = 310 miles
FIGURE 1—Tritium concentrations in vegetation/food moisture near Canadian NPPs.

[...] the largest nuclide emissions from NPPs are radioactive carbon (14C), hydrogen (3H),
and a number of noble gases. [Argon, Krypton, Xenon] 3H and 14C exist in the forms of water, water vapor, and carbon dioxide. These iso-topes rapidly exchange with stable hydrogen and carbon and recycle in all biota.
Figure 1 indicates the relationship between tritium concentrations in food /vegetation and distance from NPPs. A similar relation-ship is expected for 14C.

To summarize,  a  possible  biological  mechanism  to explain  the  KiKK  observations  is  that  NPP  emission
spikes resulted in the radioactive labelling of embryos and fetal tissues in pregnant women living nearby. Such
a  concentration,  factored  over  two  to  five  years  both before and after birth, could result in the accumulation
of  relatively  high  doses  in  radiosensitive  organs  of embryos and fetuses, particularly in hematopoietic tis-
sues.

19th September 2015 | Nuclear power kills! The real reason the NRC cancelled its nuclear site cancer study by Dr Chris Busby
http://www.theecologist.org/News/news_an...study.html

The US's Nuclear Regulatory Commission just cancelled its study into cancer near nuclear plants citing the 'excessive cost' of $8 million, writes Chris Busby. Of course that's rubbish - similar studies in the UK have been carried out for as little as £600 per site, and in any case $8 million is small change for the NRC. The real reason is to suppress the unavoidable conclusion: nuclear power kills.

This included 104 operating nuclear reactors in 31 States and 13 fuel cycle facilities in operation in 10 States.

[ They don't want a study, they already know the answers. ]

"Back in 1947 they knew. The data had been gathered at Argonne National Laboratory.[1] They knew that the newborn puppies, whose mothers had been fed small amounts of radioactive strontium-90, were dying of underdevelopment and serious birth defects. The government knew, and decided to keep it secret. The government set up the study. The government knew the results. And the government kept those results from the American people. Why?"

[1] The study referred to here was performed under the auspices of the Atomic Energy Commission in 1945 and 1946. Reports were printed by the AEC in 1947 (USAEC Report CH-3843, Argonne National Laboratory, 1947) and 1948 (USAEC Report ANL-4227, pp. 71-82, Argonne National Laboratory, 1948) but the complete results were not made public until 1969. See Miriam P. Finkel and Birute O Biskis, "Pathologic Consequences of Radiostrontium Administered to Fetal and Infant Dogs" in Radiation Biology of the Fetal and Juvenile Mammal, Proceedings of the Ninth Annual Hanford Biology Symposium at Richland, Washington, 5-8 May 1969, ed. Radioactive Spikes at Nuclear Power Stations |
http://www.ianfairlie.org/uncategorized/...-stations/

29th September 2014 | | Radioactive spikes from nuclear plants - a likely cause of childhood leukemia by Dr Ian Fairlie |
http://www.theecologist.org/News/news_an...kemia.html

Refueling releases a huge radioactive emissions plume

Operating nuclear power plants (NPPs) contain large volumes of radioactive gases at high pressures and temperatures. When their reactors are depressurised and opened to refuel every 12-18 months, these gases escape creating a spiked emission and a large radioactive plume downwind of the station lasting for 12 hours or so.

However the emissions and plumes are invisible, and no advance warning is ever given of these spikes. The public is effectively kept in the dark about them, despite their possible health dangers.

For years, I had tried to obtain data on these spikes, but ever since the start of the nuclear era back in 1956, governments and nuclear power operators have been extremely loath to divulge this data.

Only annual emissions are made public and these effectively disguise the spikes. No data is ever given on daily or hourly emissions.

Reinhold Thiel, member of the German IPPNW Board. “Radioactive isotopes inhaled by the mother can reach the unborn child
via the blood and placenta with the result that the embryo / fetus is contaminated (‘labelled’)  by radioactive isotopes.
This contamination could affect blood-forming cells in the bone marrow later resulting in leukemia.
This provides a plausible explanation for the findings of the KiKK study published in 2007 and 2008
that under-fives living near NPPs are considerably more at risk of cancer, particularly leukemia,
than children living further away” Thiel added.

[ The ReFueling Outage (RFO) starts on Sept 18, after two days detections begin to increase.
on day 5 detections peak with detections stable from sept 25 to sept 29.

Detections decline to oct 3 nearing baseline Oct 10 thru Oct 18.

For a possible refueling cycle of 30 days ( the length of the chart ).

From tracking numerous RFO sequences 30 days appears to be an average RFO length.

[ In the next segment of this series we'll map out the RFO sequence. ]

Environmental Group Says Study Shows Those Living Near Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant Have Higher Mortality Rates |
http://www.chattanoogan.com/2013/6/6/252...Shows.aspx
Thursday, June 6, 2013

In 1968-1974, largely before operations at Browns Ferry began, the local mortality rate was just 1.7% above the U.S.
Thereafter, the gap steadily increased, until by 2009-2010, the local rate was 20.5% greater – the largest elevation in at least 43 years.  (U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), the study says.
Infant mortality in the seven closest downwind counties from Browns Ferry in 2009-2010 was 21.6% above U.S. rate,
a steady increase from the early 1990s, when it was below U.S. rate. The excess is 40.3% for Hispanics and 32.6% for whites.  (U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), it was stated.

“For those of us living near Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant, this is startling and alarming news.
We need public health alerts, like pollen or weather alerts, when radiation is released from Browns Ferry,”
said Gretel Johnston, co-author of the report and a Jackson County, Ala., resident.
