Daily Dose Notes and Plan Forward
#1
The Daily Dose postings will eventually fill the page and create clutter for readers.

So unless there is an objection I will be deleting past DD entries leaving 5 days history for readers to view.

Info for each site will be transferred to a thread  so that a running history is compiled. What I will try to do is present the info in a stack format so that the most resent items are at the top of the thread with historical items underneath unless there's a way to force the thread to do that. As far as I can tell the software appends to the bottom.

So far it seems there is about 50 +/- readers interested in the DD presentations but that will probably taper off considering the mundane nature of that type of info.

There is a reason for compiling the daily operating info which I will elaborate on in future posts.

I would also like to change the name of the first thread, called The Daily Dose, to The Daily Dose Intro.
Is there any way for me to do that or is that an admin function?

Thanks for indulging me as I figure out how to best present the information on this platform.

Hi Staup, I had the same problem, a daily record would fill a thread; and decided that a month's worth would make a good posting and keep data organized chronologically. I'm sure Pia can help you reorganize the Daily Doses.  The reports are pretty boring but your commentary keeps it interesting and helps me understand what the notices mean.  I've noticed a growing readership, keep up the good work and keep them informed.

Instead of working Pia, or deleting your reports, start a monthly post in your thread and copy your daily reports in, then you can delete the old daily posts and clean up the thread leaving a complete monthly archive. Each month will have some 30 reports, probably 3 to 5 pages.   Its worked well for the webcam thread.

Only 10 daily dose reports for March so far could all go in one thread. Pia could make you a new sub forum in the USNPP section and make it sticky on the index page like the Webcam and Daley Reports are. Needs a new name though or I'll mix up a Daily and a Daley report. Should just call the sub forum something like NRC Alerts. Something brief and identifying for the Index page anyway.

Good thinking Staup and Horse - design it like the webcam format. I believe I can "stick" an intro at top post if you write it. The value is the historic record, like showing that the industry is not being honest when they claim how reliable their NPPs are. And, some days, there are some really concerning events. Don't delete anything. Horse's ideas are good.

Staup - tell me if when you check the boxes on the right of each daily report you find down below a set of drop down menus offering actions like move the checked posts. That's a tool that makes moving posts super easy. If you do find that option, create the sub-forum in NPPs and then move your posts.

Pia, I don't think user's get that box to move things, I think that must be an admin function.  What would help is to create a new sub forum in USNPPs and make that new sub forum sticky in the Index page.  Users cannot create sub forums only new threads.  I would name it something other than Daily Dose as that might get confused with the Daley Reports.  I recommended NRC Alerts but Staup might want it called something else. Once admin has created the new sub forum, Staup can create monthly threads and report threads in the new sub forum and start filling them with his daily reports.  Making the sub forum appear on the index page will make it easier for viewers to find.  The index page currently shows only the Historic sites sub forum under USNPPs.  We would like to see Staup's new sub forum listed on the index page before the historic sites.  The sub forum will display his threads just like in the web cam obs, newest threads will be on top.

See my thread in NRC Event Notices.

Each daily report can be entered here for a month and Staup can create a thread for next month.

Pia, if you create a month forum, you will need to create one next month.

Good work so far, I see NRC Event Notices on the Index page. Don't think we will need a month forum. Staup will have all of NRC Event Notices to post daily or monthly threads.

Those 10 Daily doses should be moved here where this post is. Staup can then create threads and consolidate his work. Then delete the Month subforum. Staup is set to go, and I'll delete this test post.

How about we let Staup decide how he wants the NRC Event Notices to be presented. I see you changed your idea about forum presentation in the NRC Event Notices forum. Before I do anymore typing, I want to have Staup chime in.

I'm trying to save you work.  The NRC sub forum was enough.  It doesn't need monthly subformum, just monthly threads that Staup will be able to create.  I can't create a sub forum, only a thread in a forum.  If you move what's in that March sub forum up here and delete that March sub forum we'll be done and Staup will have a new home  NRC Event Notices. Users can't create/delete sub forums.

NRC Event Notices March 2018 is going to have to remain. I wasn't able to move the posts anywhere else. Besides, readers can easily find events that occurred in certain months with a chronological order instead of scrolling through everything. No worries about my time to create each new month.

Pia, it looks like you have it all fixed and ready to go. Thanks for putting in the extra effort. Staup's new NRC Event Notices forum looks good and you have his intro stickied to the top, perfect. Staup can organize and consolidate his work the way he wants without deleting any. Looking forward to seeing more of his reports.

wish I would have been able to respond before hand.

The reason I wanted to only keep 5 most recent Daily Dose reports in the USNPP area was so readers could see the most recent posts in one area.

The daily reports are like puzzle pieces, each day is a jumble of pieces not all related.

The daily info is to keep a quick update. I take each daily and stacking them in a unit file for historical flow.

Below is an example of the how we can compile historical events.
Only NRC ENs for illustration, in an actual we would include any media reports or other researchers analysis in order to find other pieces of info.

Check out the items I highlighted in red. Notice the pattern.

Keeping all the daily reports really won't help readers find these patterns and may lead to clutter and makes it harder for readers ( and subsequent researchers ) to find data not to mention admin overhead which is what I was tying to avoid. I've been an admin and worked as the news director on a citizen news channel. I was also the news archivist on another platform. Keeping the presentation of data as concise and easily viewed is important to keeping peoples interest while at the same time informing them of events. Researchers hunt for data and compile it, others may use it to stay informed or use it to counter the subject, in this case the nuclear nightmare.

I was using the Daily Dose for it's definition ( eg the nuke industry giving us the daily dose of rad poison, half truths, blatant lies, coverups, mistakes, etc ) and have been toying with the idea of making it a podcast or A/V presentation. Changing the name diminishes future name recognition. Btw you might rename Daley Reports to Vital Reports since that's his online nic and fits nicely with the type of information he presents.
