ENENews Boycott

(10-20-2017, 01:58 PM)Horse Wrote: Hi Stock, the error message is different than the one we get when admin intends to take the site down.  I think something broke or got seriously hacked.  Probably be down over the weekend at this rate.  With such active participation, I wonder if admin even knows there's a problem.  If you hear anything let us know.

Thanks for the link to the Hanford news.  Internal exposure is a real problem.  The EPA is being gutted.  The EPA is out in Colorado today retesting the Animas river for toxic lead levels found in livestock.  Rocky Flats has found some high levels they don't think we should worry about.  The external exposure guidelines don't tell the story of what happens when it gets inside a body.

Could also be the end of ENE.
Would be great on this site, if when someone replied to  your comment and email was sent out with a link to take you there.    Just saying.

When you do a reply, look down for Thread Subscription. You can select 'Subscribe and receive email notification of new replies'. Haven't tried it here yet but I've used it on other sites to keep track of threads I've replied to. I'll try it with this thread to verify it works here. Pop in a reply to this and I should get an email; subscribe and you should get an email when I reply back.

Even if ENE is at the end, I had hoped they would keep an archive copy up.

Pia, I subscribed but didn't get an email of your reply.  Maybe the email reply is slow, we should play with this to make sure it works.  Also noticed with this reply that the Thread Subscription has defaulted back to 'Do not subscribe to this thread'.  I'll set it to 'subscribe and receive email notification of new replies' again to see if this feature is working correctly. Feel free to help me test this with another reply.

Pia, I did get an email with a link but it went to my junk folder so I didn't notice it at first.  The email says,

Quote:Horse,

piajensen has just replied to a thread which you have subscribed to at Cafe RadLab. This thread is titled ENENews Boycott.

Here is an excerpt of the message:

Awesome Thanks, Horse and stock! Your informative contributions are appreciated.... (visit the thread to read more..)

To view the thread, you can go to the following URL:

There may also be other replies to this thread but you will not receive anymore notifications until you visit the board again.

Thank you,
Cafe RadLab Staff

Unsubscription Information:

If you would not like to receive any more notifications of replies to this thread, visit the following URL in your browser:

I unsubscribed at the link and shortened it in the quote.  I will subscribe again.  The next thing to try would be to see if it stays subscribed if a user replies to a subscribed thread but forgets to set the Thread Subscription from the default 'Do not subscribe to this thread'.

Excellent, thanks for doing the legwork to figure out the subscription deal. I really like this site's set up. The tech is strong and agile. Lucas and I can make changes to configuration easily.

To everyone using the subscribe feature, be sure to check your spam folders and un-spam the notices as Horse has so kindly discovered that issue.

Stock, we do have email notifications of new replies
Quote:Thread Subscription:
Specify the type of notification and
thread subscription you'd like to
have to this thread. (Registered
users only)

Do not subscribe to this thread
Subscribe without receiving any notification of new replies
Subscribe and receive email notification of new replies
Subscribe and receive PM notification of new replies

It works as expected.  Members can also manage notifications in the User CP. Only things I noticed to watch out for was the email getting lost in Junk mail and the default of a reply is 'Do not subscribe to this thread'.

The MyBBS software CaféRadLab runs on is robust and has the latest features for a good blog.  The best thing for me was the freedom to start a topic, use pictures, and edit a post.  Its been a useful tool for me to spread the word of nuclear energy's damaging impact to life on this planet.  ENENews was a useful resource made better by the network of people contributing.  The last few years ENENews has changed somewhat from what it was in the first few years of Fuku.  I hope that ENENews continues to be a useful resource.  I hope that CaféRadLab can be made better by the network of people contributing.

Do you think maybe ENE admin is now boycotting the commenters by leaving the site down?  He might want better content to get his ratings up.

Thanks for the notice! Glad they've returned, and with such an abysmal report. Sigh.

Good morning Pia, thanks for tweeting that out. Bad news for the ocean and the people that rely on that bounty. One article did mention the Blob as a cause but forgot to mention it was a radioactive Blob. Tsunami debris floating across the Pacific was in the path of the worst of the Fukushima fallout.

Good morning to you, too, Horse.

And, while I don't trust the US military partner, WHOI's data, they have found radiation in the ocean. Of course, they downplay the data. Besides needing CTBTO data to be made publicly available, really need more independent testing across the pacific, in eddies, in the muddy bottom, more kelp, more fish specimens. Be interesting to see testing data of the Taiji Dolphins, too.

They better hurry up with that testing; not much left in the ocean to test.
