Video
Rocky Flats expert Professor Warf.

Radiation Chit Chat:

An episode of "As it Happens" which was produced March 17, 1991 and includes James Warf, Toni Churg and Jack Jennings. A general discussion of Nuclear Radiation and the consequences of commercial and military use of uranium, plutonium and other reactive material.

Comment:
65 pounds of Plutonium lost into the air ducts at Rocky Flats Facility near Denver Colorado. That was an interesting comment. Stated by Professor Warf at about 20:30 plus on the recording.

I've done a good deal of research on Rocky Flats since it's been in my backyard nearly my entire life.

In case you have not seen or heard of the following, I recommend these videos/info regarding RF and some of the troubling past.

First, I'd check out the Interview with the lead FBI investigator Jon Lipsky:
5 parts, start here:
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL...A1FB298282

Next, watch this wonderful 3 part video used as part of the Colorado grand jury testimony on 'Practices of the Rocky Flats Nuclear Weapons Plant'
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tkRFP7c...PSDjwnKoFD

Next, a former RF worker that recently wrote a book about her time in the Denver area and working there:
Kristen Iversen - Full Body Burden - Growing Up in the Nuclear Shadow of Rocky Flats
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWqJQY4GthE

Another 6 part interview of a former RF employee Judy Padilla and her accounts of work environment.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ag436iBX...7386664692

There was also a great 1hr program produced by PBS called 'Dark Circle' about rocky flats. I believe it was made in the early 1980s well before the FBI raid. Sadly, i can't find it on YouTube, only a handfull of short clips.

Pia, thanks for sharing one of the MROHP interviews, I've watched almost all of them. Here are a few more I can strongly recommend:
Jerry San Pietro

Jerry McKamy

Lee Scott Newman
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OS2zKJJ2bng
Pam Solo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1l2u-ZPU75A

Honestly all of the RF interviews from MROHP were a good watch. There was some great info from old timers that you might just not hear any where else. I learned alot about RF but I also learned alot about some of the physics of the elements used too!

Wasn't sure where to post this, Rocky Flats got scattered.  A search also found Rocky Flats lawsuit settlement http://caferadlab.com/thread-928.html besides this one.  Want to add this.
Rocky Flats 'downwind' health survey shows unusual rates of rare, thyroid cancers
http://www.thedenverchannel.com/lifestyl...id-cancers
Quote:Jensen said thyroid cancer is the ninth most common cancer in the U.S., but is the second most common in the neighborhoods near Rocky Flats, according to the survey. Thyroid cancer can be caused by radiation, but Jensen said it is too early to know whether there is a link between the thyroid cancer cases and Rocky Flats.  “Nothing is definitive,” she said.  Jensen said the other unusual statistic found during the survey is the number of “rare” cancers.  Out of a total of 848 cancer cases reported during the survey, 48.8 percent were categorized as “rare.”
I lived in the far corner of the survey area while growing up, both parents died of cancers.  Rocky Flats was known to make plutonium triggers for nuclear bombs and some plutonium releases were found to have occurred.  No mention was ever made of radio-iodine releases which is known to produce thyroid cancer.  Maybe plutonium reprocessing releases of other radionuclides which were allowed and not mentioned publicly contributed to the thyroid and rare cancers.  Nothing is ever definitive when they wait so long to look.  Even this survey will be skewed as many have already died of their cancer and won't be taking the survey.
