After watching the tepcams for many years now; and then trying to grab screenshots of the live feeds to document events at the Daiichi disaster site; relying on time lapse videos online; missing the picture.  The event I witnessed Holloween 2014, three nights of a light show in the r1 tent that went unnoticed, convinced me to start recording 24/7.  The recordings revealed many things, webcam watchers weren't crazy, crazy things are going on there.  The watchers post observations and sometimes a review would reveal more than TEPCO lets on.

I would like to find a way to make the recordings available so that more eyes could review and reveal the true situation at Daiichi.   Any suggestions welcome.

Great consideration, H. It'd be awesome if we could attract a cyber oriented watcher to see what they can come up with. I get frustrated not being able to watch some cams because I don't use Adobe flash anymore. In the meantime, we can keep posting and promoting discussion on Fukushima phenomena.

p, 24 hours worth of recording is about 10gb, usually split into 3 recordings of 3+gb.  Five terabytes, so far, is too much for my means to host.  One idea, seeing the new board, was to post partial recordings of interesting events once in a while by request.  An hour long vlc media video I posted to my dropbox was only 227kb but it wasn't the best quality.  My dropbox is getting full, was going to look at utubing video like nuckelchen does.  Editing, conversion and upload time, might take a while to get a vid posted but I could commit to keeping a small limited size 'theatre' on the forum going and rotate films thru.  Would really like to just post a raw recording for the quality to download or play, and let others step thru it like I can and grab what they want.  Just tossing ideas around to get my real time archive to the public and/or find it a home.

[ this should really go on a thread for Web Cam observation archives ]

Kevin Blanch and others are talking about finding this footage of UNIT 4 on 3-11.

It blows up at the end -

After 14 min. mark they show the attempt to get the 'snake' robot in to look around and film the reactor.
But - the workers  handling the robot are all immediately outside the dud reactor with no protection and no masks.
I think think they are on a film set or other, far away reactor playing a scene.
How could the radiation immediately kill the robot and not kill of them?
  Huh

Looks like that's all demonstration at a Hitachi lab (after the 14 min mark, but before workers appear in protective gear) - not meant to portray actual reactor site

Some tips to get started with edit features for new users.  Hints on getting started with the free software available.  Posting Flowplayer webcam grabs.  Don't just lurk, make good text observations and post them.

Windows 7, 8, and 10 all have the snipping tool for screen captures.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help...creenshots

Win 10 video capture.  Haven’t tried this, I still prefer win7 to win10.
http://gizmodo.com/windows-10-is-hiding-...1719196149

Free video capture – I use Blueberry Flashback Express, the free version.
http://www.flashbackrecorder.com/express/download

Tips:
The Reply button will include text from the post.  The bracketed quote and /quote start and end a quote box.
piajensen Wrote:text

New Reply opens a blank.  I have a Word document that I use to add my entries to and edit there for grammar, spell check, and to have a copy of that work before trying to put it in CRL.  I’ve lost too much typing when I hit a wrong button or the CRL edit expires or times out and disappears.  Copy/paste any replies you want to use; tricky getting the parts between the nested bracketed quote and /quote you want and add your text.  Copy/paste into a new reply and Preview Post.  Preview Post is my friend; see what a post will look like before hitting the final Post Reply, like spacing and those quote boxes.  Add any Attachments and Insert Into Post where you want them.  Preview again to see what the post will look like.  When I have a final, I’ll copy that back into Word for my permanent record and Post Reply.

Sizing pictures might take some trial and error.  A grab from Flowplayer can be almost doubled and still fit.  Use Paint and try resizing to 190%, save as jpg to help stay under the 500K limit for attachments.  I like to watch the tepcams at full screen so I set my browser zoom to 190 and reposition the window; TEPCO blurbs are out of the picture and don’t bug me.  Since I’m recording zoomed to 190, all my grabs just need to be converted to jpg with Paint and they’re ready to post.

The Edit button has Quick and Full edits, I usually use the Full edit.  Updating a post will not change the entry date/time stamp.  Updating an old entry won’t show as a post in the Quick Link ‘View Today’s Posts’.  The edit feature lets me fix posts with errors and add details to an observation posted in haste.

Post a JST date time cam and observation here at CRL or at ENEnews so I have a chance of finding it in the recordings.  Without TL updates to go searching no one gets to see unless we get good clear posts of what to look for. Nuckelchen lurks and comes up with video, others maybe as well, and we won’t waste too much time looking; use jst date and time, tell me what cam, and give a brief description then add notes and guesses. By putting the jst date and time first I’ll know it’s a camera observation and not just a comment or analysis.  Most important at ENEnews so it’s noticeable in the scrolling recent comments box if you want anyone to check out the cams.

11-14 14:00-16:00 cam1 workers on u2 peering down seaside possibly on 11-15
11-22 06:00 Big shaking on cam 4. Looks like another EQ.

Observations are the only record we get now.  Time Lapse archives aren't currently updating.  Watchers are more important than ever and if an observation isn't posted promptly and clearly it's gone.
