WEBCAM November 2018
Post webcam observations for November here.  Observations should start with a date and ‘jst’ time (Japan Standard Time) and camera(s).  Describe as best as possible what you see.  Contribute data such as weather conditions, work activities, TEPCO or local news reports, radiation readings, earthquake activity, or any information that documents events occurring at Daiichi.  Comments and analysis welcome.  Help keep an eye on TEPCO's disaster site.

"The map is not the territory that it is a map of ... the word is not the thing being referred to."
The month has started out pretty routine on the tepcams.  Remote cranes move around loads on work days.  I see the occasional spark on cam1 at night.

HHD asked about the TBS-JNN cam in this thread and I found an old test recording.  See the TBS-JNN thread.
"The map is not the territory that it is a map of ... the word is not the thing being referred to."

The panels came down a few days prior to the Oct. 05 event. Increased camera smashing Oct/Nov.. EQ Nov.. JNN cam last seen sometime prior to Dec 03, 2016...

The Webcam Threads are helpful and informative...
I bet TEPCO never thought camera smashing would tell us so much about the radiation levels on-site.  Thinking back on it, your sighting of unusual activity must be what prompted me to start recording TBS-JNN.  It sure looked like something had happened.  Something big enough to send sparks and smoke all the way off site to the TBS-JNN camera.  Glad to add your observations to the documentation.  The decommissioning work is a dangerous endeavor; another disaster waiting to happen.
"The map is not the territory that it is a map of ... the word is not the thing being referred to."
Agreed. You went through the trouble of setting up recording hardware for JNN, then it was gone...

Trying to place those 5 tanks visible on JNN. Looking at site pics, I know they are above reactor site, but unable to find overhead shot with them. Many tanks added since... The fire thing was visible between the tanks two and three from the left. Thinking it happened @ reactor 3 rubble, as that can barely be seen between those two tanks.  Knowledge of their location would simply help me to understand the angle of the view and better determine the location of the event. As it stands, as I said, thinking it was r3 and not within the holding tanks themselves, as it initially appeared.

If it was on site (ocean-level), it had to be huge...

Seems if anyone had the footage, it would be califnative?

Here's the thing HHD, I watched the panels come off and the uptick in sparks on cam1.  When the CSFP sputters I find cam4 sparks.  An event at r3 would have shown in the middle of cam4.  Smoke on the left edge of cam4 is more of a CSFP area steam up.  None of that has caused TBS-JNN to spark up like it did.  Maybe this will help.  There was smoke on TBS I captured in 2014.  I placed it over the 10-05 grab to help approximate locations. Is this close to where you saw fire and steam?

"The map is not the territory that it is a map of ... the word is not the thing being referred to."
True... U3 event would have been visible... Perhaps that is one of the reasons I presumed initially it had to be beyond the relatively small puff of smoke we can see on the left on Tepcam u4 Oct 05.

Yes...Between second and third tank, from the left. Almost level with the top of the tanks. Bright and condensed. It was behind the tanks but bright enough to blur the two edges of the tanks in its fury.

Could a nuclear reaction result in a local firework display of spectrum? Like a massive weld? If it was a fire, it was extremely hot, large and condensed, put out within minutes and had what looked like more steam than smoke, iirc..

Would have been a long reaction, or a short, intense fire...

Do the watertanks pose any risks of such events?

What is housed just below the cliff embankment?

Notice the delay in cranework and lack of visible workers following the event.
Quote:What is housed just below the cliff embankment?

At first, not much.  Classic shot of steam coming out of the r3 rubble pile.  This also shows the steam coming out of r2's seaside vent.  On cam1 we would just see smoke coming out of the top of r2.  Cryptome aerial-2011-3-30-0-50-45

A grab from this Cryptome picture shows the embankment drop a little better from the different angle.

A recent view of that area from NHK World http://caferadlab.com/thread-1037-post-4...ml#pid4681

2015 site map zoom.
The embankment between the water tanks and reactor buildings gets filled in with trimmed trees and rubble piles.  Maybe it was debris burning but that doesn't fit with your description.  What you describe sounds a lot like AirSepTech's description of cryogenic gas releases.  A cryo tank truck parked on the road while they're constructing the ice wall might have been vented. I was never able to figure out what the 2014 smoke was from.  One possibility for your 2016 event sighting might be radioactive pieces in the rubble pile coming together, getting critical and sputtering until they were pulled apart.  That would at least explain the radioactivity causing the sparking on TBS-JNN for the next few evenings.

11-15 There wasn't much new to report. Some sparks blinking in the night. It was busy with the cranes moving large objects the last couple work days. I didn't notice that cam4 was frozen at about 9:30 until later that afternoon. Had trouble getting the browser to load the Tepco site with an unable to connect message, so I decided to stop and transfer some recording files. The computer had plenty of room yet and checked out clean with rkill. I got it up again shortly after 15:00 and the browser loaded cam4. Was noticing a band of haze in the afternoon light and watching for a freeze up. The time has changed from a 40 second difference between cam4 and cam1 to some 3 or 4 seconds. Wondering if cam4 had some maintenance done. The camera times are as close as I've seen them before watching the two of them side by side. There's that strange band of hazy blue I hadn't noticed before.

11-16 Cam4 is down.  Flowplayer doesn't start.  Cam1 is still functioning.  Last night before cam4 went down I noticed the blue haze band just blurred out that part of the view.  The CSFP was well lit, then the lights went out.  They came back on for awhile and went out again.  There was a blob of light at the top of the screen that I see when they transport dry fuel casks but the light didn't move like it usually does.  I don't know if they were doing things they didn't want us to see or if the camera just flaked out.  I grabbed some pics.  The first one is the old view with one of the big loads being moved.  The rest look like a different camera was being used.

11-17 at 11:50 only cam1 to watch. While I was stopping/starting a new file I noticed steam on the inside of reactor 1. Wouldn't notice it in a picture but you can easily see it just watching. Not sure what's going on in there.

11-17 near midnight Japan Standard Time.  I wonder how long before Tepco can get cam4 working again.  I saw a red message on the cam4 page that said ‘temporarily down for system maintenance’.  Checking later it has no red message and no flowplayer window.  I wouldn’t want to think Tepco had something to hide.  Strangely enough, I just watched a video I had on my list covering the information in the FOIA docs of those early days when the lies began.
Missing Fukushima Fuel Pools Dry Worst Case Scenario What is PLUME GATE?

I remember thinking how much they were really not discussing about the radiation releases and the conditions of the spent fuel pools and reactors when I read the FOIA docs.  Tepco was withholding information to portray a best case scenario when it was really the worst case scenario at Fukushima Dai-ichi.  They keep acting like there’s even more to hide.  Radioactive messes are really hard to cover-up, they leak out and do their damage.  The IAEA wants Tepco to dump the stored contaminated water out to sea instead of just leaking it out a little.  Tepco says it’s more contaminated than we had been led to believe because ALPS didn’t work well enough.  The fishing industry is against the idea.  No cameras to tell us how that’s going down.  Would Tepco knock out cam4 just as they want to start removing fuel assemblies from r3 sfp and provide another success story in time for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games?  Now that would be really rude.

Glad to be back here, new password, but unfortunately, it is only to report I don't have access to Webcam1 either anymore. As Horse explained above, webcam4 has been out for 4 days, so we had to watch webcam1 solely.
Let's just hope they'll be back sooner than later. Peace all
Felibi, good to see you. I'm still recording webcam1, working for me. Watched the remote cranes move more loads around r1. I'm thinking we may have lost cam4 though.

Quite reassured it works for you. I tried the link you give above and tadaa, it shows again. Thanks for the great reporting as always.

Webcam1 having some white flashes at the bottom of R2 this evening around 2:42am
Was looking for Webcam4 alternative links and came across Horse and Pia's major webcam links page posted three years ago on Reddit:

Webcam Golare has Webcam4 taking hourly shots so it seems the cams is working properly.

Looks like rainbow reflection or flares at the bottom of the screen and there is that half circle shadow at the top which you captured last week Horse.
Apparently there was an earthquake on Nov 22nd.

I still check the webcam once in a while but not at all like I used to. Keep up the good work Horse & Pia Smile

Hi Califnative, long time no see. Thanks for the link to Webcam Galore showing cam4 snaps. I checked the feed and it's still not working for me. Maybe they don't want everyone to see anymore or they just didn't like me recording the feed.

Quote:...the earthquake off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture that occurred around 5:59 am today, November 22.

Cam1 didn't show the shaking, no surprise mounted on the seismic isolation building.  Cam4 might have showed it.  Since cam4 shows hourly snaps on Webcam Galore, we know the cam is still there and running.  Why no flowplayer feed?  I know it's a secret.  Noticed a lot of sparking on cam1 last night, might do a spark count later.

Hi Horse and Webcam watchers. A newbie member,  but have been previously lurking here and on ENE web forum. I am able to bring up webcam 4 today 11/24. The trick is to right left click where the vid display box would be.  I'm thinking the cam 4 had stopped prior maybe due to the latest flash upgrade.
Welcome RogueRR and thanks for the tip. I tried again today, after clicking around where the video should be, it started up. I started recording it again.
