WEBCAM January 2020 - Horse - 01-02-2020

Post webcam observations for January here.  Observations should start with a date and ‘jst’ time (Japan Standard Time) and camera(s).  Describe as best as possible what you see.  Contribute data such as weather conditions, work activities, TEPCO or local news reports, radiation readings, earthquake activity, or any information that documents events occurring at Daiichi.  Comments and analysis welcome.  Help keep an eye on TEPCO's disaster site.

RE: WEBCAM January 2020 - Horse - 01-06-2020

01-02  Happy New Year.  There's not much moving on the Tepcams but I've been seeing some spark activity.  The sparking decreased overall after the roof cover was placed on r3.  There's been an uptick since the vent tower pieces have been cut and removed.  Not as many as there used to be, there's still some radiation around to affect the cams, notably on cam1.  Here's a spark pair to ring in the new year.

01-08  Caught a rainbow on cam4.  At least I hope it was only solar radiation.

RE: WEBCAM January 2020 - Horse - 01-13-2020

01-08  Later that night the cutter put in an appearance.  In one hour I watched the cutter go up to the tower twice but it didn't drop down onto the tower.  The crane returned the cutter to the ground.

01-09  In the morning the cutter goes up the tower again.  The first capture shows a load being moved that was visible on both cams.  The other captures show the cutter going over the tower for another bite.

RE: WEBCAM January 2020 - Felibi - 01-15-2020

Wow this rainbow seen as a good omen! Many thanks for the reporting.
Here is how Fuk. looks tonight on WebCam4. The vent tower seems to have lost nearly half a step.
It sure is tough to get rid of that Fuk.(?) or so to speak.

RE: WEBCAM January 2020 - Horse - 01-16-2020

Hi Felibi, I thought the rainbow a good omen, as well as making a nice picture.  What the Fuku do they do with the pieces of the vent tower they bring down?  Fuku dumped in the Ocean, buried on land, or mixed into consumer products.  I'm about a week behind going thru the recordings.  Busy start to the new year for me.  I wonder how far down they plan on chopping the vent tower.

01-10  The cutter comes off.

RE: WEBCAM January 2020 - Code - 01-16-2020

Like Chernobyl, the work of dismantling and covering up poison too toxic to approach will go on beyond the life times of anyone alive and their children.  To justify the larger than normal permissible radiation doses, Japan has to be in a state of emergency. And so it is.     Nuclear has been one big cover up as governments and industry try to downplay exclusion zones and fallout poisoning the planet.  The latest risk estimates say more nuclear disasters may occur every few decades.

Nuclear and government are tightly connected in countries around the world.  The U.S. wants small nuclear reactors to power its never ending war theaters.  Nuclear plants are being built in poor countries like Bangladesh where standards will be compromised.  Spent fuel pools present an ongoing threat to civilization.

Nuclear is the Sword of Damocles above the head of civilization.   The unmanageable scope of nuclear disasters requires international cooperation, as we see with the Chernobyl sarcophagus and international help with the ongoing Fukushima tragedy.

More lights on csfp, the common spent fuel pool compared with my previous post
from the 16th early morning JST. Horse, you might have witnessed the move. This needs workers too.
We think of them. I wonder who is conducting some sociological research about them. There has to be someone.

When I think of soldier robots now being able to perform mayhem, fried robots near the 2-figure sieverts ballet
of nukes in Fuk. come to mind. #1, #2, #3, like some scary waltz.
Still, there is some light on csfp

RE: WEBCAM January 2020 - Horse - 01-22-2020

Hi Felibi, they sure turned on all the work lights under the tower behind the csfp on cam4.  They now have a couple of huge sections of vent pipe sitting on the ground.  Workers will be busy cutting the sections down into even smaller pieces to be carted away.  I’ve seen fancy sparks on cam1 when they’re cutting a section.  I’ve seen the big vacuum cleaner go back and forth on cam1 after a section comes down.  The crane activity increases and then the boat activity increases, I spotted that boat real close again but that recording got messed up.  There was another big moon transit on cam1.  I’ve got some pics I’ll try to get posted later.

The Illicit Spelunker Capturing Underground Scenes at Chernobyl
Photos from the most hazardous part of the infamous Reactor No. 4.

BY KATE BROWN
APRIL 11, 2016

...The photos Kupny snapped look like an episode from the Planet of the Apes. Wrecked machinery and dated equipment lie upended amidst peeling paint, and rusting, twisted steel. Clouded, frozen control room dials rest amid wires dangling from fuses. Scattered everywhere are cement blocks tossed on end. Yet the most haunting aspect of Kupny’s already-haunting photos is the snowfall of tiny crystalline flakes that float through every scene of silent ruin lending the photos a deep-sea feel.
Remnants of uranium fuel rods.
The tiny orange flecks are not an aberration in Kupny’s film. As Kupny snapped photos, the multitude of photons of radioactive energy swarming around him imposed their image on his film. Imperceptibly, as Kupny pressed his shutter button, the effervescence of the decaying reactor fuel jeweled the atmosphere in the buried chamber, lighting it up like an elaborate, spidery chandelier. These points of light are not representations. They are energy embodied. The specks are none other than cesium, plutonium and uranium self-portraits...
