Because there was a big push to build nuclear power plants decades ago, there are decades old facilities across the US. Generally, a nuclear plower plant has a physical lifespan of about forty years. With radiation bombarding nuclear systems and materials, there is always the likelihood that some kind of mechanical or other failure will occur. Currently there a number of facilities which have serious engineering issues as noted in agency news or other news outlets.

This thread is meant to discuss issues that arise with nuclear power plants in the USA. Please title your posts with:
